So yesterday we got our 1600th egg! And two more after that, bringing our total to 1602.
Today has been like a spring day! The sun was out so I fenced off the mudiest, wettest, sludgiest part of the garden and rescued the pot plants then let the girls out. Five out of six had a whale of a time. Roxy stayed put in the nest box for at least an hour before she emerged - but...
Still no eggs today!
They've been out with us again this afternoon. We're trying to break up the clay and drain some of the lakes and rivers from our garden so the girls were "helping".
They had a lovely time and I've just got the last one back in the run. I noticed Sophia had a malteser of mud stuck on a toe - it was rock hard, like it was baked on. It's been growing for a couple of weeks so I thought, about time it came off. I put her up on a perch and followed her around with a bowl of water, soaking her toe in it whenever she stood still. In the end, I think she knew I was trying to help her and she was very patient but, as soon as the malteser came off, she flew down to be with her buddies.
Day 1 of Flubenvet today. We've been in the house 3 months and not wormed them so they're definitely due a worming (and the proof was in the pudding, so to speak! As in, the poo trays...).
All in all, a great day in the sunshine :o)
