Day 595: Gratuitous chicken photos! In the chicken playground :o)

So the hatch works. It's just a small flap that opens out into an area that's meshed off. Mr Nora didn't even have to show them where to go, they just bundled out in their usual graceful (not) style :o)

Anyway, photos of them in their playground!

Sophia the Light Sussex hybrid. She's meant to be white with black feathers in her tail and around her neck but today, for a change, the minx likes dirt. Took me ages to find some decent topsoil in our new garden - our soil is mostly builder's rubble, pah! The girls have this small trug and a much larger one.

Gabrielle, the Columbine. Lays little green eggs. Very shy but now eats out of my hand. It's only taken a year!

Gabrielle again

Roxy the Black Rock. Having a mini-moult so head and neck are slightly bald. Top Chook. Here she is scratching like mad in the mud!

Angelina's head (far left) and the Sophia the Light Sussex hybrid (middle). I think she's laying shell-less eggs at the mo so is on a calcium tonic. Xena the Suffolk Noir who lays darkish brown eggs and never stops chatting! She looks like Roxy, as her hybrid mix is very similar to Roxy's. Xena has a much bigger comb, darker face and legs and has flashes or red feathering, not gold like Roxy's.

Angie preening.

Gabrielle again.
