So what better than a photo?
Eventually, the green Eglu will be retired back to the shed, once the babies are grown up and can move into the Cube with the big girls. Once the Eglu and run is out of th eway, we can extend the fence down and double the size of the chicken playground behind it. Looking smart but still some work to do - we need to make the tunnel at the end secure, as it's a bit cobbled together at the moment but it works. Sometimes. Last night, Xena stuck her head out of the gap where the two tunnels join in the middle and was nibbling the grass!
We need to attach struts across the top to the garden fence to get it properly vertical but mainly to stop the playground fence wobbling - it's fairly sturdy but struts would improve it :o) It's freestanding, there are bricks screwed to the bottom of the poles (rather than sinking thm into the ground). We also need to finish the mesh at each end - there's black strawberry netting behind the balustrade fencing, which keeps the girls in AND it hardly shows!
All jobs for another time though... it'll be a couple of months before we extend with the second length of balustrade (already made and in the alley!), as the Eglu needs to stay there until the chicks can either join the hens (when they're big enough to defend themselves) or the Eglu is moved inside the run... Haven't decided yet!
